INCIDENT DEBRIEF

On 09/30/2019, an armed subject led police on a pursuit after pointing a firearm at a State Trooper. The male suspect eventually fled on foot into an occupied gas station in downtown Spokane, WA, initiating a nearly four-hour barricade incident. During the standoff, the subject threatened to shoot at officers and refused to surrender. He ultimately set the structure on fire, resulting in the building becoming fully engulfed. Miraculously, the suspect survived the fire and was taken into custody by the SPD SWAT team after the building was demolished using a Bearcat vehicle. Chemical agents were deployed during the incident but had little effect on the suspect.
