SEMINAR
Location: Chesapeake D-F
This presentation will review the seminal events that have shaped the evolution of LAPD SWAT's tactical decision-making priorities. We will explore the historical context that led to the creation of SWAT in Los Angeles, and how the enforcement of law, technological advancements, court rulings, and community influence have impacted the way LAPD SWAT operates.
From its inception, LAPD SWAT has been, and remains, a life-saving organization. To uphold this mission, D Platoon's leadership has emphasized sound tactical decision-making and a philosophy centered on personnel safety - "keep 'em safe and keep 'em out of trouble."
LAPD SWAT is a full-time team composed of 60 officers, 6 sergeants, and 2 lieutenants. The team responds to approximately 150 incidents annually across the City of Los Angeles, covering 468 square miles and serving a population of nearly 4 million.
