Workman, Christopher
SEMINAR
Location: Chesapeake J-L
Police officers are at high risk for developing mental health issues due to the intense stress they experience on the job. However, those wearing the uniform often struggle to recognize their own vulnerability or to admit to mental health challenges. Officers are tasked with protecting the safety of their communities, regularly placing themselves in harm's way.
At the same time, the de-institutionalization of mental health care has placed police officers on the front lines of responding to individuals in crisis. This dual burden, protecting others while managing their own psychological and emotional stress, raises a critical question: How can police officers be expected to balance the demands of their role with the weight of their own mental health challenges?
In this session, Mr. Workman shares powerful insights drawn from his own lived experience as a police officer and advocate for mental health support within law enforcement.
