SEMINAR
Location: Chesapeake D-F
Law enforcement officers operate in high-risk environments where the potential for involvement in a critical incident, including the use of deadly force, is a constant reality. In such events, officers must be tactically and legally prepared to protect themselves against the risk of criminal prosecution and civil litigation.
This presentation is designed to provide officers with a clear understanding of the legal considerations and procedural protocols that follow an officer-involved shooting or other critical incident. Attendees will gain insight into essential post-incident actions, including asserting constitutional rights, attorney/client privilege, and navigating criminal and administrative interviews.
The course will walk through key post-incident elements such as scene orientation, photographic documentation, round counting, and the distinction between investigatory and internal interviews. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of having established departmental protocols and a working knowledge of an officer's rights and responsibilities in the aftermath of a critical event.
