On October 31, 2024, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team was called to assist the Cook County HBT on a hostage rescue. A male suspect was holding his girlfriend and special needs daughter hostage. Cook County was on scene for approximately 10 hours. The offender repeatedly threatened harm to his girlfriend and daughter throughout our time on target. A deliberate hostage rescue plan was devised and implemented. Multiple explosive entries were utilized to gain access to the structure. Shots were fired by the offender, and a successful hostage rescue was conducted.
