SEMINAR
Location: Palo Verde A
Regardless of your experience as a police crisis negotiator, it is essential to continually refine the skills that make you effective in high-stakes, often life-or-death incidents. These include active listening, demonstrating empathy, building rapport, and guiding behavioral change - core competencies that require consistent, deliberate practice. Engaging in these exercises also strengthens broader negotiator capabilities, such as open-mindedness, resilience under stress, comfort with ambiguity, humility, creativity, and critical thinking, all of which are required for effective negotiation during crisis incidents. This session is highly interactive, offering a range of practical exercises. Some exercises will feel familiar, while others will push you into new territory and challenge your approach in meaningful ways. Each activity is grounded in established hostage negotiation research, informed by narrative psychology, and drawn from techniques used by police negotiators worldwide. If you are looking for a professional, challenging environment with a healthy mix of focus and fun, this workshop is for you.
