Domestic violence offender typology is a system for classifying abusers based on their behavior, psychology, and violence patterns. Originating in the 1980s and 1990s, this presentation discusses these researched and peer-reviewed typologies and their application to crisis negotiations. The discussion uses real-life examples to demonstrate the offender types. The integrated debrief allows the consideration and application of these, using a real-world negotiation. The presentation includes audio files, BWC video, interrogation videos, text negotiations, and lessons learned from a case featured on Dateline, 20/20, and 48 Hours. Hot topics include victims' rights, de-escalation, domestic violence, strangulation, team dynamics, CNT/tactical collaboration, and negotiating with command.
